THE SEARCH
What if the thing we spend our lives searching for was never where we thought it was?
The Infinite Search explores the human need to find meaning, connection and fulfilment — and the possibility that our search can sometimes become a labyrinth of its own.
THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK
The Infinite Search uses the labyrinth as a metaphor for life and its different stages. Like the labyrinth of the Minotaur, life can sometimes feel like a structure from which there is no clear escape.
The three figures represent three stages of human existence.
The figure on the left, illuminated by the strongest light, represents childhood: the moment we enter the world still empty and naïve, but already given the first identity that will accompany and condition us — our name.
The central figure represents adulthood, marked by affliction, desire and suffering. The figure on the right, becoming increasingly transparent, represents old age and the gradual disappearance of the body.
The scene is framed by a theatrical curtain constructed as a collage of three details from paintings by Caravaggio, a reference to the opening and closing of the performance of life. The reddish tones appearing in the figures of childhood and old age bring them closer to these two thresholds: birth and death.
In the lower right corner, a rose appears as graffiti. It represents the things we search for, particularly love — often looking in the wrong place. This connects directly with the Minotaur at the centre of the labyrinth.
The Minotaur becomes a symbol of the internal struggle between instinct and reason, and of the search each of us undertakes at some point in our lives.
